MTFD Support Services is a vital part of the department. Based on the "Ladies Auxillary" of the past, these dedicated people provide drinks and food to the firefighters at scenes and training, assist with organizing special events like parades and fundraisers. If you are interested in serving your community through the fire department, but not interested in fighting fires, this may be for you. Contact MTFD Headquarters (812-294-1738)
Today at 1747 hours, Monroe Firefighters were dispatched to the intersection US 31 and Beagle Club Rd for a motor vehicle crash with one vehicle rolled-over. Batallion Chief Mark Furnish (BC23) arrived within 6 minutes and reported a two-car MVA, with one vehicle on it's side. Car 202, 205, Engine 21 and Engine 23 all arrived shortly after. The occupants of the van on its side had removed themselves from the vehicle just prior to the arrival of BC 23, and one patient was lying on the ground. MTFD crews went to work, treating patients, securing the vehicles, cleaning fluids and directing traffic. One patient was transported by Yellow EMS to UofL with non-life-threatening injuries. It was reported that the van was traveling westbound on Beagle Club Road towards US 31 when the brakes failed, causing the van to roll onto 31 directly into the path of the oncoming car. The car was northbound on 31, and struck the van directly behind the drivers door, causing it to roll onto its side.
All units cleared the scene by 1829 hours. Also on scene was Clark Co Sheriff and Indiana State Police.
